Want to practice your mountain-running navigation skills, but don’t want to go out there alone? Want someone to give you the nod that you’re headed in the right direction, or ask you to think again if you’ve taken the wrong bearing? Want to put into practice what you learned on our Navigation for Mountain Runners Course?
Join our ‘Magical Mystery Mountain Run’ somewhere in the Mourne Mountains. Grid references for where we’ll start, finish and visit will be sent to you once you sign up. We’ll meet you at the beginning, and shadow you as you choose your route and find the points we’re looking for. Should be out for a max of 2.5 hours.
Perfect opportunity to practice your navigation together with others while not getting ‘too’ lost, as well as brilliant training for the Mourne Mountain Marathon.
Meeting Location: Somewhere in the Mourne Mountains (!) Grid references will be emailed to you after purchase.
Time: 10am – 12.30pm (approx).
What to Wear and Bring Along
- Harveys Mourne Mountains 1:25000 map – if you don’t have the Harveys version, don’t worry. We’ve some spare copies you can borrow.
- Compass – make sure it doesn’t have a bubble!
- Bring along your Fell Running Association (FRA) mountain running kit – fell-running shoes, whistle, waterproof coat with hood, waterproof trousers, hat and gloves in a bumbag are a minimum for the mountain section.
If the date doesn’t suit, don’t worry… just get in contact and we can arrange to run a recce on a day and time that suits you best!
Please note that, so that we can get everyone’s medical and emergency contact details, only one course place can be purchased at a time i.e. If you are buying two course places, you’ll have to make two separate payments.
